If all is well, you will get the following back. To see if it's connected to the scanner, try typing MDL then hit return (you won't see anything on screen as you type). You should then be able to click the 'Connect' button at the top of the screen, and it should show as connected. In the CoolTerm window, it should display a device - for me this showed as usbmodem0001.
I then got a message about configuring a new network device - click cancel on this, not sure why it does this! So, with CoolTerm running, plug the scanner into the computer via the USB cable. I installed CoolTerm - it has some useful features that let us paste from e.g. The next thing is you need some software that can send and receive messages from the serial port. I installed the drivers found on this page but I think there are other alternatives. The first thing to do is to get a USB-Serial converter driver.
